This document discusses the role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in disaster risk management, also presents the people-centered approach in early warnings and different issues related to monitoring, dissemination, communication, warning response and capacity building. Furthermore, it presents different nowcasting systems from China, Canada and Australia, and provides examples of successful early warning systems related to heat waves, flooding, storm surge and wild fire.
