Making cities resilient: the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities - Chamber of Local Authorities
22nd Session CPL(22)2:
The objectives of this report are: to give a brief and general overview of the state of cities with respect to global trends in climate and other factors such as demographics and urbanisation; to analyse the factors that make a city resilient and the arguments for moving cities in this direction, providing brief best practice cases; to present the UNISDR Making Cities Resilient Campaign as a vehicle for cities to enhance their resilience.
The report suggests that cities be encouraged to join the UNISDR ‘Making Cities Resilient’ campaign, and recommends action in a series of areas including knowledge development and sharing, funding mechanisms, addressing different types of cities, and an integrated and multi-level governance approach to resilience building.
The report includes the draft resolution on Making Cities Resilient, and case studies from: Venice, Italy; Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Manchester, United Kingdom.
