Managing natural hazard risk in New Zealand: towards more resilient communities
A think piece for local and central government and others with a role in managing natural hazards: This paper sets out the results of the Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) review into managing risks from natural hazards. It identifies why natural hazard management is important in New Zealand; who the key players are, their roles and interactions; what happens, and does not happen in practice and why; and what some key challenges are in enhancing overall performance. The paper has been prepared by Gerard Willis (Enfocus Ltd) and commissioned by LGNZ and Regional Councils.
