PAS 200:2011: crisis management – Guidance and good practice
This document is a standard designed to help organizations take practical steps to improve their ability to deal with crises, including natural disasters such as earthquakes and flooding. It does this by giving organizations an operational structure to detect and prepare for such crises and hence prevent or survive them. The standard serves as a single source for much useful crisis management guidance in the following areas: (i) understanding crises; (ii) developing a crisis management capability; (iii) planning and preparing for crisis response and recovery; (iv) communicating in a crisis; and (v) evaluating crisis management capability.
Developed by leading crisis management experts, PAS 200 provides users with a framework that delivers the practical steps to identify potential crises, mitigate the risks and avoid potentially damaging consequences. Development of the specification was driven by the UK Government’s Cabinet Office and includes contributions from: The Bank of England; Leeds University Business School; Thomas Cook; UK Airlines Emergency Planning Group; and University of Portsmouth.
