Participatory research on the effectiveness of index based livestock insurance as a pro-poor climate risk management strategy in Borena Zone
This participatory research was designed to assess the effectiveness of Index Based Livestock Insurance (IBLI) as a pro-poor climate risk management strategy in Moyale and Miyo woredas of Borena Zone, Ethiopia. This study aims to:
- examine the determinants of uptake of IBLI,
- analyze impact of IBLI on policyholders,
- assess the perceptions of pastoralists towards the climate change impacts and contribution of IBLI as a strategy of mitigating it,
- identify the strengths and gaps of partners working with the IBLI scheme,
- explore the strengths and weakness of stakeholders of the IBLI scheme,
- examine government policy in supporting IBLI project implementation, and
- analyze the trends in IBLI uptake.
