Developing climate risk management approaches for SMEs in Morocco

Within the project "Developing Risk Management Approaches for Climate Risks" the Strategic Partnership between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Allianz Reinsurance piloted an Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRM) approach in Moroccan industrial zones. These industrial zones are rapidly gaining importance as innovation hubs and cross-points for long value chains for local production and export leverage. Yet, they are not well prepared for disasters and most SMEs located at these areas do not have a plan in place to deal with climate-related risk such as floods.

Therefore, the overall aim of the project presented in this factsheet was to develop integrated solutions for the management of flood risks. This included prevention measures and risk transfer solutions as well as enabling SMEs to use those solutions to reduce their overall risk exposure.
