Duties And Responsibilities

  • Promote activities and processes, in coordination with personnel of UNISDR Americas and the regional liaison officer, for the dissemination and implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in Colombia.
  • Promote, facilitate and support the development and implementation of a pilot project, to be defined jointly by the national authorities and UNISDR, aligned with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and based on the priorities of UNASUR's High-Level Working Group for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management and in particular on Colombia's national priorities for DRR and resilience.
  • Together with personnel of UNISDR Americas and ECHO South America, coordinate with national and local authorities and partners for the implementation of DIPECHO-related activities, processes and actions to be carried out in Colombia, in particular those relating to UNISDR's regional project and others which complement disaster risk reduction and preparedness in Colombia.
  • Ensure proper coordination and articulation among Colombia's national authorities and the national system for disaster risk reduction and management, UN Country Team, DIPECHO partners and counterparts, personnel of ECHO South America, civil society, private sector, special interest groups, academia, among others.
  • Support promotion and implementation of the Making Cities Resilient Campaign with local authorities in Colombia.
  • Support activities aligned with DRR in the country, such as the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, participation in conferences and workshops, provide presentations and written inputs, advocacy, outreach and others in collaboration with UNISDR Americas, national DRM authorities and ECHO.
  • Other tasks as relevant at the request of UNISDR's Head of the Regional Office for the Americas and the project coordinator for South America.


Result Of Service

Appropriate implementation of UNISDR's regional South American project and the DIPECHO South American action plan along with demonstrated institutional support to Colombia's national authorities for matters related to disaster risk reduction as well as the promotion and implementation of the recently adopted Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and articulation among local, national and regional levels.

Qualifications/Special Skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced University degree in international development studies, political or social sciences, humanities or related field. A first level university degree with a combination of relevant academic qualifications and experience may be accepted.

Experience: A minimum of at least 7 years of progressive work experience in national project coordination, intergovernmental processes, disaster risk reduction and/or related fields.

Knowledge of UNISDR, DIPECHO actions, intergovernmental processes and DRR processes and platforms at the national and regional levels.

Excellent analytical and communications skills.

Language: Fluency in Spanish (speaking and writing skills). Working knowledge of English is a plus.
