Ms ER Hay founded Umvoto Africa primarily as a water resource development and management consultancy with particular emphasis on groundwater.
The company has been active in the Western Cape region since 1992 where it’s core expertise is founded on an unrivalled understanding of the plate tectonics and other geological features involved in the formation of deep aquifers, and in the development of models for the sustainable extraction of water from these aquifers.
Umvoto has subsequently expanded into other earth science areas and is now active in Integrated Water Resource Management, contamination/remediation studies and geoinfomatics, based on its in-house GIS capability. In addition, ecological risk management or Georisk Provention studies are undertaken to evaluate the risks associated with natural disasters such as earthquakes, flooding and landslides and the containment thereof.
The company adopts a holistic and scientific approach in seeking environmentally acceptable and sustainable solutions and is committed to maintaining technological excellence in its chosen niche.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
