In order to address the cross sectoral nature of major environmental challenges caused by climate change, and to fulfill the commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) & Kyoto Protocol, the Ministry of Environment, which is the National Focal Point for the UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol has taken the initiative to establish a Climate Change Secretariat under it’s preview.
The Climate Change Secretariat, which is headed by the Director of the Climate Change Division, adopts a comprehensive national approach to address climate change challenges that as these concerns categorize as an environmental concern, which is also a development issue of Sri Lanka.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
