The State and District Disaster Management Authorities in Odisha will be strengthened with dedicated manpower support to carry on various preparatory and up-keeping activities throughout the year, reports the Statesman. It has been decided to strengthen the disaster management authorities at State and District level with dedicated manpower and fund support from SDRF and NDRF for carrying on the activities like preparation of disaster management plan, mobilization of manpower, regular updating of data in website, organizing capacity building programmes and so on. Chief Secretary Pati stressed on community level capacity building.
Odisha Disaster Recovery project (ODRP) has taken up the largest disaster resilient housing project in the State. The project covers 16150 beneficiaries in 178 villages of 7 blocks in the 2 disaster prone districts. Automatic weather stations at block level and automatic rain recording stations at Gram Panchayat Levels for flood and agriculture forecasting will be set up.
