The OECD is making the draft Recommendation of the Council on Disaster Risk Financing Strategies available for public comment from 15 January 2016 until 15 April 2016.

The draft Recommendation will replace the Recommendation of the Council on Good Practices for Mitigating and Financing Catastrophic Risks and aims to position this legal instrument as the main international guidance on the development of strategies for the financial management of disaster risks.

These revisions will also improve consistency with other OECD legal instruments and policy guidance, including the Recommendation of the Council on the Governance of Critical Risks and the G20/OECD Methodological Framework for Disaster Risk Assessment and Risk Financing, and will respond to some of the lessons learned from the OECD’s global survey of practices and challenges in disaster risk financing.

This draft is still a work in progress and the content may be subject to modifications, in particular to include the relevant comments received through the public consultation.

See the draft text for comment in the related links section below.
