In 2008, district of Kailali was badly affected by a flood that destroyed thousands of households, situation that lead the local government to implement strategies aimed to reduce the impact of these events, between which, an early warning system that up until now has successfully reduced the number of causalities to nearly zero. Nepal national government should follow the example of Kailali which has shown that natural risks can be intervened and prevented and proved that investment in early warning systems does pay off, according to an opinion piece in Kathmandu Post.
