Storm chaser Terry West has called on the residents of Rose City, Australia to prepare for extreme weather events, such as the recent floods. He urged the community to take initiative and not to wait for authorities' warning, according to the Warwich Daily News.
"What I find is people are waiting for someone of authority to knock on their door," he told the Warwich Daily News. "We have to get away from that and start taking a little bit of responsibility for ourselves," he added.
According to the report, Mr West, 'an avid storm enthusiast', said that "breakdown of communication" between government departments and the public added to the uncertainty, with information at times days late. He suggested that local governments should use social media: "People are hungry for information but it is just too hard for them to find on the government pages."
