USA: New FEMA flood maps show World Trade Center at risk
According to new advisory maps for Manhattan released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the World Trade Center site is included in the zone seen as most at risk for flooding during a powerful coastal storm, such as Superstorm Sandy that hit New York City in October 2012.
The new maps add thousands of buildings and many square miles of land thought to be unlikely to flood prior to Sandy and are intended to be used to rebuild and fortify flooded areas as well as to set premium rates for flood insurance and play a role in building codes and other regulations.
