Pakistan: Hailstorm takes residents by surprise
Following an unusual hailstorm in Islamabad, the Pakistan Meteorological Department called for improved climate change adaptation measures to ensure that the risks faced by millions of people in poor and vulnerable communities across the country are reduced, particularly during monsoon season, reports The News International.
"The local managements should adopt precautionary measures otherwise people of low-lying areas could face worst kind of difficulties,” said Meteorologist Muhammad Farooq Dar. Experts predict an increase in floods, cyclones, drought, heatwaves and food insecurity in the country for the coming years.
