Myanmar: Disaster management in the curriculum

The Myanmar government has developed a new disaster management training curriculum and is preparing to conduct disaster management courses for civil servants across the country, the Thailand-based Asia Disaster Preparedness Centre told Myanmar Times.

"There is a pressing need for government agencies to “harmonise” their knowledge to ensure they are properly prepared for disaster," Mr Sudhir Kuma, a senior program manager at the centre, said at the 4th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, Switzerland, last month.

He added that “To meet these needs, the disaster management course is under reconstruction. The objective of the disaster management course revision is to have a more updated and effective training curriculum.”
