Sector Social Affairs Officers of all districts in Rwanda are about to receive cell phones as part of a disaster risk reduction project supported by the World Food Programme, the UN agency for Refugees, and The Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs, as reported by The New Times. The handsets will enable social affairs officers to improve reporting and communication on disasters; to use them in a future early warning system; and to gather information on disaster impacts and prediction.
