Switzerland: Preparing for a seismic disaster

Swissinfo.ch reported about an earthquake mitigation exercise that took place in Basel, Switzerland. Although the the last serious earthquake occurred in the area in 1356, experts agree that it is a high risk seismic zone. The federal authorities started an earthquake mitigation programme in 2000 to 'reduce the damage potential of earthquakes through prevention'. One of the key steps is to define disaster preparedness plans for a major earthquake.
