A new study by the American Meterological Society, Monitoring and understanding trends in extreme storms: state of knowledge, suggests that extreme precipitation can be explained by climate change, but for other severe storm categories, such as hurricanes and thunderstorms, the scientists have not yet obtained the data and understanding, reports The Washington Post. The researchers emphasize the importance of improving and maintaining observational data sets for gaining data that can provide information on future trends.
