According to a Japanese government report, up to 323,000 people could die and the following 30 meter-high tsunamies could flood up to 1000 square kilometers if a strong earthquake and tsunami hit the Nankai Trough along the country's Pacific coast, reports NHK World. However, officials add that if the proportion of the anti-quake resistant buildings increased, there would be up to 40 per cent less collapsed buildings.
