Philippines: Civil defense to launch 2011-2028 disaster plan on Oct 10

Quezon City - The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) will launch on October 10 the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (NDRRMP) 2011 to 2028, a principle guide to the country’s disaster risk reduction and management efforts.

The NDRRMP will present the specific goals and objectives for reducing disaster risks, together with appropriate and related actions to meet those objectives. It also outlines the activities that will strengthen capacities of both national and local government units to further disaster resilience of Filipinos.

The launching will be followed by the awarding ceremonies for the winners of the 2012 Gawad Kalasag (GK) Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Management and Humanitarian Assistance.

Defense Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin, Local Government Secretary Mar A. Roxas, and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Executive Director Benito T. Ramos will present the awards for the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils, private and volunteer organizations, non-government organizations (NGOs), service providers, and other stakeholders that have rendered outstanding contribution in the field of disaster risk management and humanitarian response and assistance.

The event will be held at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Commissioned Officers’ Club, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
