The energy sector has the potential to help scientific research of climate change and its related risks and opportunities, according to Acclimatise. For example, one of the large energy companies has offered to use its offshore facilities to collect scientific data on sea level rise and storm frequency. The oil and gas sector faces numerous climate risks, such as increased pressure on water resources related to drought and flooding, or failure of physical asset.
