Free Malaysia Today reports that Bangkok's experiences with the floods could be used as an example for Malaysia and serve as a template for future disaster management. Nevertheless, Senior Programme Officer, Operations Department, MERCY Malaysia, Mohammad Said Alhudzari declared that the country was prepared for disasters, even before the floods in the Thai capital happened.
“I don’t think a situation in Bangkok will happen in Malaysia because we have had meetings and have been alert since the floods in Johor during the last Chinese New Year. We have made preparations since even before the situation worsened in Bangkok but what happened there served as a warning to us,” Dr Bahari Abu Mansor, the vice president of the Malaysian Red Crescent, said.
