In a Jakarta Post report, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, BNBP’s director for disaster risk reduction asserted that investing in disaster mitigation programmes - requiring sizeable investments - will save lives and minimize losses. Indonesia will allocate US$444 million to disaster management in 2011, including education programmes. 'Children at school should know what they must do when disaster strikes,' Nugroho said. 'It should be taught across the country as part of the curriculum.'
