Pakistan: Naek lauds services of UNISDR for ensuring help in floods

Islamabad - Acting President Farooq H. Naek said that Pakistan attaches great importance to United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Rick Reduction (ISDR), which provides international platform by sharing best practices in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction. He said this while talking to a delegation led by Ms. Margareta Wahlstom, UN Special Envoy for Disaster Risk Reduction who called on him at the Parliament House here Tuesday.

The Acting President said that Pakistan is actively participating in UNISDR initiatives and sharing its experience of disaster management in handling mega disasters like Earthquake of 2005, IDP Crisis and floods in 2010.

He informed the Envoy that in line with UNISDR latest initiative on One Million Safe Schools and Hospitals Campaign, Government of Pakistan through NDMA is in the final stages of finalizing the campaign in Pakistan.

The Acting President while appreciating the services of ISDR said UNISDR should further enhance its active role in Pakistan’s Disaster Management initiatives in view of 2010 floods specially focusing on ‘Community Based Disaster Risk management, Safer Schools and Hospitals Campaign, Training, education and awareness raising campaign; and Sharing of best practices in the field of disaster management.

The UN Special Envoy, Ms. Margreta Wahlstrom thanked the Acting President for receiving at the Parliament House and assured all possible cooperation and assistance.
