There is [..] a great need for all countries in the region and development practitioners to re-think their development approaches in terms of disaster risk reduction, says Johnson Siamachira in an editorial for The Herald.

'While there is no single formula for risk reduction for the poor, disaster risk reduction should be a core component of all long-term sustainable development activities. Without the application of effective risk reduction strategies positive development gains and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals are unlikely.'
