A geologist has warned that the 'tip-fill' slopes of Bukit Antarabangsa are 'prime landslide areas due to poor engineering and earthwork practices carried out over the last century', reports Free Malaysia Today. The 'tip-fill' technique involves cutting slopes and removing and refilling the soil.
“To minimise further landslides in this area the authorities need to conduct detailed landslide hazards and risk mapping there,” he said. “They have to select and implement suitable risk mitigation measures, educate the public and carry out slope maintenance and monitoring.”
“But these tasks require strong and serious political will because they are costly and long-term. And they are not the sole responsibility of engineers but also of geologists, hydrologists and geophysicists.”
