Yemen: Call for national strategy to face disasters

Sana'a - Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Ali Saleh Abdullah called on Wednesday for a national strategy to face disasters, based on partnership between the government and non-government organizations of disasters management.

In the opening session of the first meeting for relief partnership in Yemen, Saleh confirmed that there is no a special organization of disasters management in the country, saying that the ministry has worked to hold meetings with the societies and organizations to discuss topics of relief and facing disasters, especially after the natural disasters in Hadramout and al-Maharah governorates.

The two-day meeting was organized by the Yemeni Nama Network for Domestic Associations in Sana'a.

The deputy minister urged participants who are represented government bodies in field of civil defense and relief as well as local and international organizations, to pay further works and qualifying relief workers.

Some 70 participants in the meeting would discuss means of dealing with disasters, and pre-acts for facing disaster and efforts of relief after the disasters.
