Bhutanese schools are revising their advocacy programmes and disaster management plans following the loss of two students who drowned in one of the worst 'natural' disasters to hit Bhutan last week.
"We have to wait for data for the incessant rainfall for early detection and contact education focal persons to coordinate in schools,” said a senior program coordinator of the Home Ministry, “so far, we’re working on an early warning system for glacier lake outburst floods only because it’s seen as an imminent threat.”
Although some lessons were learnt, there was still a long way to go to prepare for natural disasters, said teachers, parents and officials.
