International Day for Disaster Reduction Indian Ocean tsunami drill

Marking the International Day for Disaster Reduction, a simulation of a 9.2 magnitude earthquake took place today off the north western coast of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia to test preparedness across the Indian Ocean.

Following the simulation the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami bulletin for all areas of the ocean.
