Afghanistan presents 'National Adaptation Programme of Action for Climate Change' at talks in Barcelona

Press release - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

Mr Mohammad Anwar Anwarzai, the Head of United Nations Department at the Afghan Foreign Ministry is currently attending the climate change negotiations in Barcelona, Spain. He has introduced a report on Afghanistan's National Adaptation Programme of Action for climate change.

Afghanistan has implemented the National Adaptation Programme of Action process with the support of the United Nations Environment Program. The objective of the National Adaptation Programme is to serve as a direct channel of communication relating to the urgent adaptation needs of Afghanistan to the effect of climate change. In this context National Adaptation Programme together with the Rio Conventions provide Afghanistan with an opportunity to orient national development in a manner that fosters national ownership, promotion of partnerships, adaptation and capacity building for sustainable natural resource management.

The process is country-driven consultative action of analysis and planning that determine national priorities.
