Building safer cities, the future of disaster risk
This document explores a range of issues related to disaster vulnerability and identified priorities for development and disaster prevention activities to ensure safer cities in the future. The papers in this volume are organized into four sections: Globalization and the Economic Impacts of Disasters; Environment, Climate Variability, and Adaptation; Social Vulnerability to Disaster Impacts; and Vulnerability of Critical Infrastructure to Disasters.
The papers in this volume were prepared as background materials for the conference on The Future of Disaster Risk: Building Safer Cities held at the World Bank from December 4 to December 6, 2002.
