WMO statement on the status of the global climate in 2007
The WMO statement for 2007 describes extreme weather and climate events during the year and provides a historical perspective on the variability and trends of surface temperatures and other important parameters.
Remarkable global climatic events recorded in 2007 include record-low Arctic sea-ice extent, which led to first recorded opening of the Canadian North-west Passage; the relatively small Antarctic ozone hole; development of La Niña in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific; and devastating floods, drought and storms in many places around the world.
