Witnesses account, contributing towards Hyogo Framework for Action: community-based disaster preparedness - Bangladesh
Enhancing community capacity on disaster preparedness in vulnerable areas of North & North‐East Bangladesh: DIPECHO South Asia – 4th action plan:
The first of these case studies features Shahidar Rahman, one of the beneficiaries from the Islamic Relief project, in partnership with European Commission Humanitarian Aid (DG ECHO) and its DIPECHO program, to implement an earthquake and flood preparedness programme in order to help vulnerable communities improve their capacity to deal with disasters by increasing their knowledge and awareness about imminent risk.
The second case study presents Piyara Khatun, a mother of nine, who benefited from the project that provides easy to understand information and education materials to local community members, incorporating local indigenous knowledge into the training and ensuring strong community involvement.
