Tsunami 36 months after
This report describes how Plan’s Child Centred Community Development (CCCD) approach worked following the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and how children have been successfully included in social decision-making. Its aim is to help Plan and other agencies examine how CCCD strategies can be further strengthened following 'natural' disasters.
Based on consultants’ investigations of sustainable change through Plan’s post-tsunami operations, the report describes children’s clubs (Village Disaster Preparedness Committee) and social equity auditing in India, inclusion of local content in the national curriculum in Thailand, Happy/Sad Boxes and the training of counsellors in Sri Lanka and the Little Doctors programme in Indonesia. Stories include photos, diagrams that outline programme development and several brief case studies. Plan’s tsunami programme expenditure is also summarized by domain and donor country.
