Global Risks 2009: a Global Risk Network report
In addition to the immediate risks stemming from the financial crisis, the report identifies gaps in global governance and cautions against ignoring interconnected risks related to natural resources. It warns of potential rising tensions between developed and developing countries with respect to climate change policy.
One section of this report addresses the Global Agenda Council (GAC) on 'Mitigation of Natural Disasters', which focuses on strategies for reducing losses from events that can have catastrophic global impact. A set of principles is suggested, to reflect on natural catastrophes that lend themselves to other areas of risk, such as a technical accident or major terrorist attack.
