Coastal Climate Change Advisory Committee: issues and options paper, main report
This paper recommends ways in which Victoria, Australia’s land use planning and development controls can best support the government’s policy for managing the coastal impacts of climate change. Chapter 3 specifically addresses the current scientific predictions on the likely effects of climate change on the Victorian coast, including sea level rise, more severe storms and higher storm surges, interactions between inundation from the ocean and catchment‐based flooding and coastal erosion. It also analyses the work in progress, particularly through the Victorian Government’s Future Coasts program (in the Department of Sustainability and Environment), to assess the vulnerability of Victorian coastal areas and settlements to the effects of coastal climate change.
The paper intends to stimulate debate about the topic. It is available for public comment and submissions may be forwarded by April 26, 2010.
