Climate frontline: African communities adapting to survive
This publication allows African women and men to describe, in their own words, how climate change is affecting their lives and how they are adapting to survive. It addresses strategies that can be implemented by communities in order to adapt to the changing conditions and reduce negative impacts of climate change, which need recognition by governments and international bodies.
The accounts presented in the publication clearly demonstrate that: (i) climate change is already a reality in vulnerable regions of Africa (extreme weather and unpredictable rain), and (ii) communities are doing their best to adapt to their changed environment by building on local knowledge and diversifying their livelihoods (deforestation, agricultural methods and education). It is intended to policy-makers, NGOs and frontline communities to learn more about adaptation and begin to work together to transform surviving communities into thriving communities.
