Climate frontlines: an online forum to strengthen the voices of vulnerable communities in global climate change debates
This brochure presents an initiative which aims to bring the knowledge and concerns of vulnerable communities into global climate change debates. It highlights stories from around the world on early impacts and adaptation cases such as drought and related migration in Kenya, ice melting and storm in Alaska, cyclone in Fiji Islands; as well as on food security and freshwater threatened by sea level rise and erosion and mud slides, indigenous rituals and spiritual responses, and impacts of mitigation measures.
The initiative aims to: (i) build up a global network of community-level observations, experiences, practices and coping strategies related to climate change; (ii) provide an opportunity for communities to share and exchange their experiences with other communities; (iii) support community-based projects and activities related to climate change; and (iv) reinforce international awareness of the knowledge and concerns of small island, rural and indigenous peoples and promote their inclusion in climate change debates.
