Mitigate and assess risk from volcanic impact on terrain and human activities (MIA-VITA) newsletter n. 2
This second newsletter reports on the general results and improvements achieved during the first two years of the MIA VITA project, which addresses the multidisciplinary aspects of volcanic threat assessment and management in the International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPCs) and Europe, from prevention to crisis management and recovery. It also contains a special section on the 2010 Merapi eruption.
The MIA VITA project gathers civil defence agencies; national geological and volcanological surveys; scientific teams in the areas of earth sciences, social sciences, building, soil, agriculture, information technologies (IT) and telecommunications; and an IT private company. MIA-VITA is working in close cooperation with local scientists and stakeholders in Africa (Cameroon, Cape Verde) and Asia (Indonesia, Philippines). It is financed by the European Commission, under the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, Area 'Environment'.
