Pastoral community-based early warning systems: why don’t we really understand them? - Technical brief

This technical brief looks at the role of community-based early warning systems (CbEWS) in empowering communities to prepare for and confront natural hazards. It states that good lessons have been learned from their use in areas prone to sudden onset disasters, however in pastoralists communities of the Greater Horn of Africa where drought has a slow onset, disaster is a major hazard and the lessons learned on CbEWS are far fewer.
