Earthquake safety week-2012 - Report
This document reports on the ‘Earthquake Safety Week-2012’ observed in the whole Bihar state in the week starting from January 15, 2012, in remembrance of the most devastating Nepal-Bihar earthquake of 1934. It presents the activities organised at State and district level as a part of a public awareness strategy in order to inform communities about the seismic vulnerability of Bihar.
It includes a seismic zoning map of the state, which shows that 6.5% of the total area of Bihar is placed in Zone V, referred to as very high damage risk zone. Out of the 38 districts of the state a total no. of 8 districts fall under the highest earthquake seismic zone-V. Again 22 districts of the state fall under seismic zone-IV and the rest in zone-III.
