Philippines country report on natural disaster reduction, submitted to the IDNDR-ESCAP Regional Meeting for Asia, 23-26 February 1999, Bangkok, Thailand
This report presents country’s disaster risks and natural hazards, such as cyclone, flood, earthquake, volcano, storm, storm surge and landslide, and describes governmental and institutional structures responsible for disaster management in the Philippines.
The report discusses major activities and accomplishments in disaster reduction during the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) including improved institutional and legal framework and strengthened disaster preparedness at local/community level. The publication outlines current efforts in disaster reduction and sets out priorities and recommendations for future activities. It is a major reporting document on country’s progress and achievements in disaster reduction at the end of IDNDR.
