Mozambique: Disaster risk reduction as the basis for climate change adaptation – A multi-level project of German-Mozambican Development Cooperation
This paper presents the results and key messages of the National Disaster Management Institute's (INGC) project, Institutionalizing Disaster Prevention in Mozambique, the aim of which is to include the need for climate change adaptation into the strategic ten-year plan of INGC.
The paper is divided into five sections: (i) section one explains the disaster vulnerability situation in Mozambique; (ii) section two explains the project's approach and methodology; (iii) section three outlines the four main project activities; (iv) section four relates the results of the two year project, including a case study investigating the use of early warning systems; (v) section five lists four keys to successful disaster prevention, as determined by the study.
