Landslide and debris flow hazard management
The purpose of this report is to provide information to stakeholders about the management of landslide risks at Whakatane, Ohope and Matata. It summarizes the findings of the risk assessments and sets out issues and options that should be considered in coming up with an appropriate management response to the identified risks, including the nature of the hazard, the level of risk, and the practicalities of implementation of mitigation measures in the affected communities.
The report is comprised of ten sections: (i) section one introduces the reports methodologies and goals; (ii) section two explains the legislation that is currently in place in New Zealand to deal with disaster risk management; (iii) section three discusses landslide risk analysis; (iv) section four discusses landslide risk assessment; (v) section five discusses landslide risk management; (vi) section six suggests potential risk management strategies; (vii) section seven evaluates the current risk management strategy in place; (viii) section eight presents possible risk management options at different levels of regulatory intervention; (ix) section nine outlines an evaluation process with which to evaluate the possible risk management options; (x) and section ten suggests the implementation of milestones for future monitoring and review.
