Disaster risk reduction makes development sustainable: a call for action
This brochure features the devastating impacts of disasters, their effects on development and the rising price of disasters and climate risk. It then introduces disaster risk reduction as a significant investment to deliver on development and presents the way forward in making risk reduction central to development. It also gathers and conveys key messages from international organizations engaged in the negotiations for a post-2015 development framework. It argues that, unless disaster risk reduction is integrated into poverty eradication strategies, the cost of natural hazards and the threat they pose to development will continue to increase; and that unless disaster risk reduction is integrated into development, the impact of disasters will not only grow, it will also set back development itself.
