Climate security and justice for Small Island Developing States: an agenda for action
The policy brief proposes an agenda for action that identifies political, legal, economic, and other possible ways of addressing the predicament of the SIDS. It focuses on climate change related challenges that are most urgent for SIDS in the context of security and global justice. As part of the challenges and possible responses for adaptation and development, it considers the need for: (i) greater national disaster preparedness under the Hyogo Framework for Action and its anticipated post-2015 successor; (ii) special natural disaster insurance; (iii) traditional adaptation actions; (iv) technology development and transfer; (v) better management of marine and other natural resources; (vi) global partnership; and (vii) debt swap for climate finance.
