Interdisciplinary action in urban planning and building for bushfire: the Victorian case (Australia)
Bushfires in Victoria have highlighted the need for an integrated risk assessment approach that crosses multiple disciplines and regulatory responsibilities. This paper describes interdisciplinary approaches used when implementing Victorian bushfire policies in urban planning practice. It argues that there are the following three essential steps for risk assessments:
- Gather and understand fundamental and background information;
- Record fire and forest knowledge;
- Conduct design assessment and response processes.
