Chronological history and destruction pattern of tornados in Bangladesh

This review paper presents the chronology and frequency of tornados in Bangladesh between 1865 and 2014 to identify their destruction pattern. It demonstrates that the regularity of tornados increases the last few decades, since 1960.

The authors suggest the following measures for mitigating impacts and reducing losses:

• improved weather forecasting;
• warning system;
• tornado risk zoning maps;
• proper building code for infrastructure.
