Surat city resilience strategy

This document is prepared with the aim of providing a framework for the development of a climate resilience strategy for the city of Surat. This document is aimed at city managers, while also providing information that can be understood by people at large. Lastly, this document is based on the current situation. We would like to highlight the need of the same being updated at regular intervals to reflect emerging trends over time. The resilience strategies with therefore evolve over time with better understanding of climate change phenomena as well as emerging city level issues.

The document has been divided into the following sections:

• Variability and Change, which collates the predicted changes that would affect the city.
• Possible Impacts, which analyses the impacts of these changes on the city fabric.
• Evaluations & Assessments, where the cities vulnerabilities and capacities are assessed.
• Strategies, which discuss measures to counter or mitigate the negative impacts of climate change, poverty and urbanisation.
